# Diana S Fox

*Abstract fiber artist exploring nature, connection, memory and transformation through cloth & stitch | Textiles, Fiber Arts, Mixed Media | Based in Parker, CO, United States*

## Artist Statement

I work with cloth because it carries memory. It can be cut apart, dyed, stitched, layered, worn down, and transformed, yet traces of what came before remain.

My work begins with a deep connection to the natural world and a curiosity about the patterns, rhythms, and disruptions found within it. Tree rings, roots, stones, water, shifting landscapes, and other organic forms become starting points rather than subjects to reproduce. Through abstraction, I use line, color, repetition, transparency, and texture to explore ideas of time, change, connection, and resilience.

I dye and alter much of my own fabric, using surface design, improvisational construction, layering, and hand stitching to build complex surfaces. I often reuse scraps, remnants, and previously worked cloth. Their histories become another layer within the work rather than something to hide.

My process is intuitive and responsive. I rarely know exactly where a piece will end when I begin. Cutting, covering, revealing, stitching, and sometimes removing what I have already made are all part of the conversation.

Underlying the work is my spiritual connection to the world around me and my belief that we are not separate from nature or from one another. I want the finished work to hold evidence of that connection while leaving enough unanswered for the viewer to bring their own experiences to it.

## About

Diana S. Fox is a contemporary fiber artist working with hand-dyed cloth, surface design, improvisational composition, and hand stitching. A quilter for more than 40 years, she began with traditional quilting before moving toward abstraction and a more intuitive studio practice.

Her work is rooted in a deep connection to nature, spirituality, and the idea that cloth can carry history and memory. She is particularly interested in line, color, transparency, repetition, and the marks left by time and the natural world. Reuse is an important part of her practice; scraps, remnants, and previously worked materials often find their way into new pieces.

Fox's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the National Quilt Museum and Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, as well as Quilt National, Art Quilt Elements, SAQA Global Exhibitions, and Carrefour Européen du Patchwork. She is a Juried Artist Member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, and her work has been featured in numerous publications and on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show.
