# Julia Belmore

*Belmore’s sculptures are uncannily familiar, transforming everyday objects to new forms,. | Sculpture, Studio Arts | Based in Montréal, QC, Canada*

## Artist Statement

Through her practice the artist calls attention to the relationship between our lives and the built environment, exploring personal and collective memory tied to familiar forms. Often working with themes of discovery, particularly through the lens of Chinese Canadian history, the experiences of mixed-race individuals, and the complex dynamics of diaspora and cultural disconnection. Working primarily with metal and fibres, using welding, casting, and felting techniques to create material tensions.

## Biography

Belmore is currently based in Montréal. Graduating from Concordia University with a BFA in Sculpture in Spring 2026. Belmore transforms everyday objects into uncannily familiar forms, manipulating scale and material to disrupt recognition and invite closer investigations. In 2024 Belmore founded Mud collective, a feminist arts collective that functions to create opportunities for underrepresented groups.
