*Contemporary Impressionist oil painter exploring unusual views of the natural world. | Painting, Drawing, Photography, Oil Pastel, Graphite, Acrylics, Ink, Oils | Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada*

## Artist Statement

Nature is Nurture. My art is a visceral connection to nature balancing exploratory freedom with craftsmanship. I seek out unusual views whether broad vistas or intimate spaces. My desire is to make the ordinary ~ extraordinary.

## Biography

I was born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and was privy to my mother's painting style early on. My mother was influenced by the Group of Seven, especially Tom Thompson who was a personal friend of the family, particularly her father, Dr. Alexander Pirie. My grandmother was an avid art collector, buying well known Canadian and European artists including Turner, Rembrandt, Cornelius Krieghoff and Paul Peel. So, at a young age, I was exposed to excellent art. Since 1998, I've been creating many works in oil pastel, graphite, acrylics, ink, and oils. I have taught fine and applied art students and continue to conduct workshops. In recent years, my newer work has become more of an inner journey of impressions and feelings in the guise of nature. The work is more visceral and abstracted.

## Portfolio

### Cloud Nesting 5 (2025)

*Oil on canvas*

*24" x 48"*

This sleeping muse was nestled in the crest of this mountain. I'm showing it staged as well.

---

### Crown on K Mountain (2025)

*Oil on canvas*

*30" x 48"*

K Mountain, in Keremeos, BC is quite unique. Noted for the "K" in the scree slopes, this day offered me the opportunity to capture a cloud formation "crowning" the mountain.

---

### Sage Bush 5- Gold (2025)

*Oil on canvas*

*20 x 24*

While at the Similkameen Art Residency I became enamoured with the abundant sage bushes. Just ordinary items growing everywhere, but so unusual.

---

### Douglas in Deer Lake Park (2023)

*Oil on canvas*

*24" x 48"*

This tree seemed to be the king of the forest.

---

### Pink Diva (2023)

*Oil on canvas*

*36 x 36*

I walk a lot in gardens, forests and parks. This burgeoning spring tree encouraged me to create a fantasy tree painting. Actually, it was a blooming crab apple tree in reality.

---

### My Elegant Companion (2022)

*Oil on canvas*

*16 x 48"*

This was an unusual opportunity of lighting from the top left above and behind the forest. The title just came to me and works very fine.

---

### Specter Cloud (2019)

*Oil on canvas*

*30" x 60"*

For many years, I've done drawings and oil pastels of clouds. I love the challenge of creating a balance between their effusive nature and sculptural presence.

---

### Avenue Walk 1 (2016)

*Oil on canvas*

*36" x 36"*

Walking down the street during fall season is amazing. This simple red bush became a rich tapestry of colour and depth.

---

### Winter Flow 2 (2011)

*Oil on canvas*

*48" x 60"*

I often find interesting views walking around Vancouver and in particular, Stanley Park. This simple stream was heavily covered over by bushes, which I edited to create a stronger image.
