## Artist Statement

Painting, for me, is a process of revealing rather than representing. Every work begins with the human figure but ultimately seeks to uncover something beyond it: emotion, silence, fragility, and the invisible forces that define who we are. My paintings invite viewers into a space of introspection where form becomes a reflection of the inner self.

## About

Pedro Matos is a Portuguese contemporary figurative artist whose practice explores the relationship between the human figure and the invisible dimensions of emotional experience. Working across painting, photography, and writing, his work investigates themes of identity, vulnerability, memory, transformation, and the search for meaning. Rather than depicting the body as a physical subject, he approaches the figure as a vessel of presence, revealing the psychological and emotional landscapes that shape human existence. Since childhood, art has been an essential part of his life. Through expressive figuration and layered surfaces, his paintings invite contemplation, encouraging viewers to reflect on what lies beneath appearances. His practice is driven by a continuous search for authenticity, creating works that exist between the visible and the unseen.
