Museum of Western art in Trinidad, CO honoring illustrator A.R. Mitchell and the American West.

The A. R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art is a museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of illustrator Arthur Roy Mitchell and the art of the American West. Opened in Trinidad, Colorado in 1981, the museum has been housed since 1989 in the historic 1906 Jamieson Dry Goods Store, featuring original pressed-tin ceilings and wood floors. The main gallery holds over 350 paintings by Mitchell and his contemporaries, alongside collections of Spanish and Native American folk art including bultos, retablos, tinwork, Penitente artifacts, and indigenous pottery and textiles.

The museum serves as a vital cultural and tourism hub for southeastern Colorado, and regularly hosts contemporary calls for artists inspired by Mitchell's photographic archive.
