## About

One of the largest art museums in North America with over 120,000 works

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is an art museum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located on Dundas Street West in the Grange Park neighbourhood of downtown Toronto. The museum complex spans 45,000 square metres (480,000 sq ft), making it one of the largest art museums in North America and the second-largest in Toronto after the Royal Ontario Museum. It houses exhibition spaces, an artist-in-residence office and studio, dining facilities, event spaces, gift shop, library and archives, theatre and lecture hall, research centre, and a workshop. The permanent collection includes over 120,000 works from the first century to the present day, featuring Canadian, First Nations, Inuit, African, European, and Oceanic artists. The museum organizes and hosts travelling art exhibitions and has undergone expansions in 1918, 1924, 1935, 1974, 1977, 1993, and 2004-2008 by architects including Darling and Pearson, John C. Parkin, Barton Myers and KPMB Architects, and Frank Gehry. It acquired The Grange in 1911 and has hosted exhibitions like those from the Hermitage Museum and King Tut.
