## About

India's national academy promoting the visual arts through exhibitions, workshops and a permanent collection.

Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art) is the Government of India's national academy for the visual arts, based in New Delhi. It was inaugurated on 5 August 1954 and registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act in 1957. It is the youngest of the three national Akademies and works through its General Council, Executive Board and committees.

The Akademi preserves and documents a permanent collection of contemporary, modern, folk and tribal art from India. Together with regional centres in Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Garhi, and sub-centres in Shimla, Ahmedabad, Agartala and Patna, it presents exhibitions, workshops, camps, lectures and retrospectives. Its programmes include the National Exhibition of Art, the Print Biennale India and scholar and studio artist programmes.
