## About

University art museum presenting regional and national exhibitions in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art presents exhibitions and programs that connect the University and the surrounding community with art and artists from across the region and beyond. Housed in the historic George Hurst Building on the Hattiesburg campus, its Gallery of Art and Design serves as the museum's primary exhibition space, presenting work ranging from historical to contemporary by regional and national artists. The museum also offers education and engagement opportunities through lectures, workshops and symposia featuring artists, critics, curators and historians.

It was established in 1997 by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees, expanding on the earlier C.W. Woods Gallery founded in 1977.
