# The Unexpected Portrait

## About This Program

> "Unconventional portraiture — emotion, identity, memory, action, abstract interpretations"

We invite artists to deviate from formal posing and realistic representation, focusing instead on emotion, identity, memory, action, or unconventional subject matter through the use of modern techniques, stylized depiction, or abstract interpretations of the subject. Open to most mediums - we are unable to accommodate electronic media and are not accepting AI generated work. This show will be juried by Julie Lapping Rivera.

## Eligibility & Requirements

- **Geographic Eligibility:** International
- **Disciplines:** painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, textile, watercolor
- **Age Requirements:** 18+ years old
- **Note:** Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Only one entry per artist. Ineligible work: AI generated art, work previously juried into an ArtWorks Gallery show, and work created under instruction. Electronic media not accepted.

### Additional Requirements

1–3 original pieces per entry; only one entry per artist. Image files: JPG, PNG, or GIF; 2MB–6MB per image; minimum 1000px on shortest side; named FirstName_LastName_Title. 2D work must be framed and securely wired for hanging. 3D work must fit through a standard door, weigh no more than 100 lbs, and fit on a 20"W×20"D pedestal top or the floor. Work must be hand-delivered to ArtWorks Gallery on specified dates, or mailed with a prepaid UPS return label. Entry fee: $25 for 1 piece, $35 for up to 3 pieces.

30% gallery commission on all work sold; art need not be for sale but is encouraged
