# 2027 BAXTER ST Residency

## About This Program

### Description

Each year, BAXTER ST invites emerging lens-based artists living in New York City to apply for the BAXTER ST Residency Program. This residency offers lens-based artists much-needed workspace in New York City as well as access to the BAXTER ST community and programs.

Our residents shall have the free use of the facilities and equipment at BAXTER ST for the duration of the Residency during respective hours of operation, as well as a materials fee to cover the cost of film, printing, or other costs related to the making of their work. Residents receive a monthly stipend appropriate to our W.A.G.E. certification level during the three months of workspace access, as well as an additional production fee to realize their exhibition.

### Benefits of the BAXTER ST Residency

- Workspace: free use of facilities and equipment at BAXTER ST at CCNY during the Residency, as well as a materials fee to cover the cost of film, printing, or other costs related to the making of their work.
- Stipend: residents receive a stipend of $1,000 per month during their three months of workspace access.
- Solo Exhibition: each resident will be granted a solo exhibition at BAXTER ST after their term of residency, plus a production fee to realize their exhibition, a public conversation, a video interview, and a one-on-one meeting with an Art Advisory Committee Member.

### Eligibility

All artists currently residing in New York City who are working in photography or lens-based art and have yet to have a solo exhibition in New York City are eligible to apply. Living accommodations are not provided. Students must have completed their studies on or before January 1, 2026 to be eligible to apply. Chosen Baxter St Residents MUST be New York City residents for the duration of the residency period. There is no fee to apply.

### Selection Process

A jury of art professionals will consider all eligible applications.

- **Note:** All artists currently residing in New York City who are working in photography or lens-based art and have yet to have a solo exhibition in New York City are eligible to apply. Chosen residents must be New York City residents for the duration of the residency period.

Open to all residents 18 years or older who are living in New York City. BAXTER ST staff, Board members, previous Workspace (or Darkroom Residency) Residents, and their families are not eligible. Only lens-based work will be considered.

### Additional Requirements

- Work sample: 10 images (required, can include installation shots) and up to 1 video (optional, max 3 minutes)
- Letter of intent: exhibition proposal (max 300 words)
- Artist statement (max 300 words)
- CV: one-page artist's resume
- Two references with contact information
