## About This Program

> "Stories of Streetsville – A Timeline Through History"

Mississauga Arts Council's Murals with MAC, in support of the Region of Peel Public Works and HATCH, is launching five hoarding mural projects across designated sites in Ward 11. Councillor Brad Butt, together with Heritage Mississauga, the Streetsville BIA, and the Streetsville Historical Society are collaborators on this initiative to provide meaningful artistic opportunities for local artists while celebrating Streetsville's rich history, past and present, through compelling, site-specific artworks. Murals with MAC is seeking dynamic and impactful imagery that captures the unique spirit and character of Ward 11's Streetsville community.

This ambitious project will celebrate the rich heritage, people, and landmark moments of Streetsville, past and present. Six (6) selected artists will create two (2) murals while they work together to create a seamless visual narrative, using a timeline approach to portray Streetsville's evolving history. The final artwork should feel cohesive across all panels while showcasing each artist's unique style and interpretation.

Theme: Stories of Streetsville – A Timeline Through History. Artists will illustrate key historical moments, places, and community traditions that shaped Streetsville. The mural should include figurative, architectural, and cultural elements that reflect the character and spirit of a heritage village in a modern city.

Artists are not permitted to use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in any part of their practice for this opportunity.

Required elements to be represented in the collective narrative include:

Iconic People & Community Traditions: Former Mayor Hazel McCallion (Bread and Honey Festival), Streetsville residents (past and present), The Santa Claus Parade.

Historic Sites & Landmarks: Old Railroad Station / Streetsville Rail Station (C.P.R.) – Queen Street North, 1910; Old Fire Department; Old Churches; Old Franklin House (pre-1900s); Maiden Lane School.

Historical Moments & Local Activities: Swimmers at the River / Power Dam; 1920 Lakeshore Baseball Team; Hockey team on wet ice downtown, 1911.

Selected artists must visit the Streetsville Historical Society and connect with Heritage Mississauga for archival reference images and historical context.

Each artist will be assigned a section of the visual timeline, and all artists must collaborate closely to ensure a consistent visual flow, harmonized colour palettes, shared storytelling direction, and respectful representation of Streetsville's heritage.

Deliverables: Final digital high-resolution artwork suitable for large-scale print production; accompanying description of your design and the era/moment depicted; participation in collaborative meetings with the artist cohort, MAC, HATCH, Heritage Mississauga, and Streetsville Historical Society.

Technical Considerations: The image can be created using traditional (drawing, painting, etc.) or digital techniques. The image must be available to be reproduced in 300 DPI, CMYK high-resolution digital format (.pdf or .jpg). The image must be compatible with the specifications of 6ft in height and 20ft in length. This is NOT a handpainted mural.
