## About This Program

> "Latin America and Caribbean inspired work; open to all media and interpretations"

### About the Exhibition

IMPORTANT NOTE: Artists of all backgrounds are welcome to apply. You do not need to be of Latin American or Caribbean descent--submissions are open to anyone whose work engages with or is inspired by these regions and themes.

OPEN CALL: This 2nd annual multimedia exhibition has proven to be a crowd favorite. Submit up to nine works for juror consideration for our Latin America and Caribbean inspired show, presented at The Townhouse Gallery and online via the SAA website. The theme is open to all media and interpretations.

### Juror

This year's returning juror is local artist and SAA's gallery manager and board secretary, Valeria Ochoa.

Valeria is a full-time Literature and Language educator, supporting Norwalk Public Schools' population. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Linguistics and an M.A in curriculum and instruction. She is passionate about storytelling through both writing and photography. Her creative work captures the beauty of everyday life and centers voices from all walks of life.

As a first generation Colombian, ancestry, roots and lineage as well as its ties to land and belonging has been a centerpiece in the fabric of her life. Beyond being a high school teacher, she is deeply invested in the power of language, both as a tool for communication and as an evolving art form.

She hopes to continue to grow as a writer and artist all while helping immigrant populations, diminishing the literacy crisis, empowering young artists, and being tormented by her 2 year old tuxedo cat.
