# Ceramic Winter Residency with John Bauer

**Hosted by:** The John Bauer Pottery Studio and BnB

**Type:** Residency | **Location:** John Bauer Guest House, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa | **Deadline:** October 31, 2026

## About This Program

> "Ceramics and material engineering — developing your own distinctive ceramic technologies and pathways to scale production, guided by John Bauer's philosophy of "embracing the noble catastrophe"."

Your residency. Your evolution. Your next artistic chapter. You tell us what you hope to achieve during your stay with us, how many pieces you want to make. Tell us your goals, your dreams and what inspires you.

We are non prescriptive and tailor the residency around your aspirations. John's brilliance lies in his mastery of material engineering. Through his mentorship, residents are guided to develop their own distinctive ceramic technologies and discover pathways to scale their production. His philosophy – "embracing the noble catastrophe" - is fertile ground for bold artworks that forage new frontiers.

This is specifically a ceramic residency so all clay artists. John does mostly handwork and we do have wheel that is used by residency artists and mould making. There are also three kilns. Walks, beach time, and even free diving adventures to forage for materials and ideas. A final exhibition at the Montebello Design Centre to celebrate your residency.
