This prestigious event draws nearly 400,000 attendees each July, providing artists with an exceptional opportunity to connect directly with art lovers, collectors, and the local community. Since 1968, the Ann Arbor SSDAF, consistently recognized among the nation's Top 100 fairs, has showcased original fine art and fine craft selected through a rigorous jury process that celebrates exceptional creativity and craftsmanship. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Ann Arbor's historic theater district, the SSDAF offers a vibrant atmosphere that enriches the experience for artists and visitors alike. Artists enjoy top-tier hospitality throughout the event, including access to our air-conditioned Artist Hospitality Lounge inside the historic Michigan Theater, a lively opening-night celebration hosted by local favorite Knight's Steakhouse, and 24/7 professional event security. The fair combines a thriving art marketplace with downtown Ann Arbor's distinctive dining, shopping, and entertainment scene, creating an unforgettable cultural experience for artists, collectors, and families alike. ### General Information ### Fair Dates: Thursday, July 15-Saturday, July 17, 2027 **Application Opens:** Sunday, November 1, 2026 **Application Deadline:** Tuesday, March 2, 2027, by 11:59 PM ET **Application Fee:** $60 (nonrefundable) ### How to Apply Applications will be available through ZAPPlication.org beginning November 1, 2026. - Submit five images: four images of your work and one image of your booth. - The booth image must accurately represent the artist's intended display. - Applications submitted without a booth image will be returned. ### Booth Fees Booth fees vary based on the zone, location, and available amenities. Please refer to the Booth Information section and the attached map for additional details. ### 2027 Key Dates to Remember - November 1, 2026: Applications open - March 2, 2027: Applications due by 11:59 PM ET - March 6-14: Jury in session - March 17: Jury results announced by email - March 31: Deadline to accept invitation - April 15: $700 booth deposit due - May 15: Last day to cancel with a refund, minus a $100 administrative fee - July 14: Load-in day, with staggered arrival times by zone - July 14: Artist Party; dinner and drinks provided - July 15-17: Ann Arbor State Street District Art Fair - July 17: Move-out immediately following fair hours ### Fair Hours - Thursday and Friday: 10:00 AM-9:00 PM - Saturday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM ### Artist Amenities and Show Features - Artist Hospitality: a complimentary Artist Hospitality Lounge inside the iconic Michigan Theater, providing light refreshments, restroom access, and a quiet setting to recharge. - Exclusive Opening-Night Party: a complimentary Opening-Night Party on Wednesday evening bringing together artists, board members, collectors, and attendees for networking, dinner, and drinks inside the Michigan Theater. - Complimentary Water Delivery: daily water delivery directly to artist booths. - Daily Booth Sitters: assistance from daily booth sitters for meals or personal needs. - Vehicle Access: artists may access their booths by vehicle for loading, unloading, and restocking before and after fair hours. - 24/7 On-Site Private Security. - Special Local Discounts at participating State Street District restaurants and retailers. - Artist Sales: artists retain 100% of their sales proceeds; the fair is free for all visitors. - Online Artist Directory: each participating artist receives a complimentary listing in the online artist directory on the Ann Arbor Art Fair website. - On-Site Parking Passes Available for Purchase through the City's local parking authority. ### Awards Jurors select award winners on the fair's opening day. Each winner receives a cash award and an invitation to participate in the following year's fair. - Best in Show: $1,000 - Second Place: $750 - Third Place: $500 - Category Recognition Awards: $1,500 total - Emerging Artist Award: $500 - Featured Artist Award: Booth fee waived ### Medium Categories - Ceramics - Digital Art - Drawing - Emerging Artist - Fiber/Other - Fiber/Wearable - Glass - Jewelry - Leather - Metal - Mixed Media 2D - Mixed Media 3D - Painting - Photography - Printmaking - Sculpture - Wood ### Multiple Applications A separate application is required for each medium category. ### Emerging Artist Program The Emerging Artist Program supports artists who have exhibited in no more than three prior shows before applying. - Applicants must select "Emerging Artist" as their medium category. - Include a 300-word artist statement describing your work, early-career challenges, and goals. - Upon acceptance, a $200 booth-fee reduction is provided. - Emerging artists are encouraged to seek mentorship from veteran exhibitors on booth display, pricing, and operations. - Artists may apply as either an emerging or established artist, but not both. ## Eligibility & Requirements - **Disciplines:** ceramics, digital art, drawing, emerging artist, fiber/other, fiber/wearable, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2d, mixed media 3d, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, wood - **Note:** A two-person partnership producing a single body of work qualifies as a single exhibitor. Artists must represent their own work and be present for the full three-day event; no agents are permitted. Artwork created using artificial intelligence (AI), in whole or in part, is strictly prohibited; all exhibited work must be created entirely by the artist's own hand and original creative process. Buy/Sell, commercial production, and imported merchandise are not permitted.
