# Write Over Here: Indigenous Futurism Residency 2027

**Hosted by:** Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity

**Type:** Residency | **Location:** Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, Banff, AB, Canada | **Deadline:** September 24, 2026 | **Entry fee:** CA$35

## About This Program

> "Indigenous Futurism — adapting novels, short stories and plays into film and television work, exploring themes of futurism"

'Write Over Here: Indigenous Futurism' welcomes Indigenous screenwriters at various stages of their careers to apply individually or with a collaborator to work on adapting their work for the screen. Collaborators may include novelists, short story writers, or playwrights. The program supports writers who want to advance their work and are exploring themes of futurism for film and television adaptations.

Participants will engage in faculty-led workshops, one-on-one feedback sessions, and team bonding exercises. Writers will enhance their skills, have various networking opportunities and benefit from 24/7 access to personal studio space once on campus. The residency balances self-directed writing in personal studios and scheduled workshops, discussions, and events: an online preparatory week of intro sessions, script reviews and one-on-one sessions; faculty and guest artist led workshops covering story and character development, screenwriting techniques, and creative practice; peer-to-peer engagement and collaborative exercises; one-on-one consultations with faculty, Roxann Whitebean, and others to be announced; and community engagement opportunities.

Write Over Here: Futurisms runs concurrently with programs in Literary Arts and Visual Arts exploring related concepts, and cross-disciplinary learning and exchange is encouraged. On February 24th an open house will showcase the cohort's work through screenings, table reads, and artist talks.
