## About This Program

Turtle Bay's West Coast Biennial Art Competition and Exhibition is back for its ninth year! This guest favorite is a wonderful exhibition showcasing a wide variety of artwork from contemporary West Coast artists, and we invite you to participate!

The juror will select between 30 and 50 artworks for the exhibition, which will run from Friday, January 29, through Sunday, April 18, 2027. Cash prizes totalling up to $3,000 will be awarded at the exhibition opening on Friday, January 29, 2027.

Artists 18 years of age and older who currently reside in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska are eligible to enter up to three artworks created within three years of the November 6, 2026, submission deadline.

Acceptable media include painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, and mixed media.

This year, the Founder of The Art Hunger and Arts Director for Viva Downtown Redding, Karlo Henry, is our juror. Karlo Henry Velazquez Fernandez is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and cultural organizer whose work bridges painting, design, and community-driven creative initiatives. Born in Barcelona and shaped by life across Mexico and the United States, his practice explores identity, emotion, and connection through visual storytelling influenced by surrealism, cultural surrealism, and contemporary pop culture.

As the founder of the Art Hunger and Arts Director for Viva Downtown Redding, Karlo is dedicated not only to creating meaningful work but also to building platforms that expand access, visibility, and opportunity for artists. Through both his personal practice and cultural leadership, he is committed to strengthening creative communities and using art as a catalyst for connection, collaboration, and change.
