# Aviário Studio Ceramics: Coil Building Residency 2027

**Hosted by:** Aviário Studio

**Type:** Residency | **Location:** Aviário Studio | **Deadline:** March 14, 2027

## About This Program

> "Coil building in clay"

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

**Aviário Studio Coil Building Residency** aims to promote exploration and production in the field of coil building in clay. The program is customized according to the artist's goals regarding duration, outcome and focus. We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation, research and learning new techniques; or it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

Please note that Ceramics Residencies have to be at least 3 weeks.

### Equipment

- Electric Kiln (1260º) 220L
- Electric Kiln (1050º) 160L
- 3 electric Pottery Wheels

### The Studio

The studio was an old aviary converted into 5 equipped workshops, with facilities for printmaking, ceramics, wood, metal, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, and bookbinding. Artists can develop projects using various mediums and a combination of technologies.

### Self-Directed Residency

A Self-Directed Residency offers time and space to focus on your work. It is an invitation to seriously engage with your practice and creative process. You can find individual space to settle, and well-equipped workshops with specialized equipment to test possibilities and materialize your ideas.

This residency is conceived for emerging, mid-career and established artists who wish to work independently on research and/or production. Extra technical, training, or creative guidance can be requested at any time during the residency, subject to a fee and availability.

### Guided Residency

A Guided Residency is all about breaking new ground and trying different things. If you want to discover a new medium or to dig deeper into an art technique, you have the opportunity to experiment, get technical training and guidance, and expand your artistic possibilities. We will create a customised plan with you according to your goals and interests, allowing you to combine training with time for independent work.

The number of training hours depends on the chosen art technique(s) and your goals. You will receive a fee quotation for your residency once your plan is structured and approved by you.

### Assisted Production Residency

An Assisted Production Residency is for artists with technical knowledge who are focused on a specific outcome. Some large format projects or extensive work need well-equipped workshops and, often, extra production help. This residency is perfect to bring your ideas alive with all the equipment, space, and technical support you need. The fee quotation for your residency depends on the amount of assistance you request.
