# In Cahoots Residency June - December 2027 Application

**Hosted by:** In Cahoots Residency

**Type:** Residency | **Location:** In Cahoots Residency, Petaluma, CA, United States | **Deadline:** October 1, 2026 | **Entry fee:** $25

## About This Program

> "Artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing and collaboration"

In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to both emerging and professional artists with a focus on artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing and collaboration. While we do occasionally host artists working in other mediums such as painting, photography, and mixed media, our studios specifically support printmakers, letterpress printers, book artists, and writers, so applications in these mediums are given priority. The residency hosts from 3 to 5 artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks long.

Residents are provided housing: 3 individual guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms), and 2 summer sleeping cottages (with a shared kitchen and full bathroom). Residents have 24-hour access to the shared visual art studios or the individual writing studio. Residents do their own cooking. For those without a car, rides to the grocery store/supply store and weekly group field trips (to places such as downtown Petaluma or the Pacific coast) are provided free of charge.

Accepted artists pay a residency fee to attend. Financial support, called a "Fellowship" is available to help defray this cost. This application is for both Regular (full-pay) residencies and Fellowship (fully funded, or partially funded) residency applications. Ten fully or partially funded residencies are available in each application round; applicants who are not awarded a Fellowship residency will automatically be considered for a Regular (full pay) residency.

A full Fellowship covers the entire residency fee, a partial Fellowship covers a part of the residency fee. Housing is included. Travel, specific materials, or food are not covered by a Fellowship. The October 1 deadline is for residencies taking place from June to December of 2027; notification of acceptance/denial will be sent out by December 1, 2026.

The spacious printmaking and book arts studios are in a renovated barn. The letterpress studio is fully equipped with a Vandercook Universal I, a Vandercook Universal III automated press, and a large collection of lead and wood type. The printmaking studio houses a Takach 40 x 72 etching press, a Conrad 36 x 54 etching press, a Griffin 32 x 52 etching press, vertical etching tank, large paper soaking tray, utility sink, drying rack, and work tables.

The separate book bindery includes large work tables, Jacques board shear, Challenge guillotine paper cutter, drymount press, Kwikprint foil stamp press, and two nipping presses. Basic supplies such as solvents, rags, brayers, and newsprint are provided. Artists should bring their own plates and paper, and can opt to bring their own inks or pay a small fee to use the studio inks.

Every session ends with a work-share: a chance for dialog and sharing works in progress with fellow residents. Artists are required to donate one piece of artwork for the In Cahoots Residency Archive.
