# Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Art Residency - Summer and Fall 2027

**Hosted by:** Aviário Studio

**Type:** Residency | **Location:** Aviário Studio | **Deadline:** June 1, 2027

## About This Program

> "Exploration and production in the Visual Arts, using a medium or a combination of technologies"

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

**Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency** aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop works on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist's goals.

### Basic information

- The duration of the residency can be from 2 weeks to 4 months.
- You are free to decide if you want to stay in Aviário Studio accommodation or to find somewhere else to stay.
- Aviário Studio is open from Monday to Friday (excluding Portuguese public holidays), from 9 am to 6 pm.
- All residency programs include full access to workshops. Equipment can be used based on demonstrated experience, or after joining paid beginner training.
- Materials aren't included in the residency fee. Artists should bring or buy their own. We have a selection available for sale at the studio, suited to different techniques and our equipment.
- We will help you to prepare for your residency ahead of your visit.
- The fee depends on the type of services you request.

### Types of Art Residency

**Self-Directed Art Residency**

A Self-Directed Residency offers time and space to focus on your work. It is an invitation to seriously engage with your practice and creative process. You can find individual space to settle, and well-equipped workshops with specialized equipment to test possibilities and materialize your ideas. This residency is conceived for emerging, mid-career and established artists who wish to work independently on research and/or production. Extra technical, training, or creative guidance can be requested at any time during the residency, subject to a fee and availability.

**Guided Art Residency**

A Guided Residency is all about breaking new ground and trying different things. If you want to discover a new medium or to dig deeper into an art technique, you have the opportunity to experiment, get technical training and guidance, and expand your artistic possibilities. We will create a customised plan with you according to your goals and interests, allowing you to combine training with time for independent work.

**Assisted Production Residency**

An Assisted Production Residency is for artists with technical knowledge who are focused on a specific outcome. Some large format projects or extensive work need well-equipped workshops and, often, extra production help. This residency is perfect to bring your ideas alive with all the equipment, space, and technical support you need.

The studio was an old aviary converted into 5 equipped workshops, with facilities for printmaking, ceramics, wood, metal, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, and bookbinding.
