Whenever I'm just a little bit grumpy, my husband takes me to the nursery. We walk around the plants and spend too much money. Two years ago, he bought me some Gladiolus bulbs. They didn't come up the first year and I forgot about them. Until a few beautiful flowers just randomly popped up in my garden two years later. I didn't know that I would be painting gladioli when I started this painting. I was just finding the fun in acrylics and messiness until they too popped up out of nowhere. I've had to deliberately change my art style over the years to fit my life with small children. Acrylics dry quicker and are cheaper. I've leaned into Impressionism and radical acceptance. And it's been wonderful.
