Artist Statement

Jacques Kannemeyer is a South African printmaker whose work blends traditional lino printing with modern digital tools. Originally trained in graphic design in the late 1990s, Jacques has always been drawn to bold visual storytelling — a passion rooted in his childhood love for comic art. His creative process begins with concept development using AI tools, but every final artwork is hand-carved and printed by Jacques himself — meticulously carved lino blocks, printed in small editions by hand using a manual press. His work explores themes of identity, resilience, and imagination, grounded in the belief that printmaking remains a powerful medium for storytelling in the digital age.
