American Women Artists (AWA) is a national nonprofit dedicated to the inspiration, celebration and encouragement of women in the visual fine arts. Founded in 1991, it gives women artists the professional tools to build careers, including annual museum exhibitions, direct financial support, professional credentials, sales opportunities and an annual symposium. Its 25 in 25 initiative aims to secure 25 museum exhibitions for women artists in 25 years, in partnership with U.S. museums such as the Tucson Museum of Art, Haggin Museum, Rockwell Museum and Booth Museum of Western Art. Members advance in status through exhibition participation, and AWA distributes over $40,000 in awards to artists each year. It also runs an annual online juried exhibition and publishes a monthly magazine.
