A Canadian artist-run residency pairing artists with scientists to study wildlife, ecology and death.
The Biophilium, formerly the Ayatana Artists' Research Program, is a Canadian artist-run residency that encourages artists to engage with wildlife, ecology and death. Its programs pair artists with researchers from international laboratories, wildlife centres and museum archives through two-week thematic online study seminars, supported by artist talks, studio visits and workshops. Since 2014 the organization has also run in-person field expeditions, site-specific installations, exhibitions, publications and an anthology of artists' books. It also hosts free online community meetings, including a book club and a monthly brain club for artists.
