The Bulbul Art-Residence opened in 2023 in the village of Besh-Kungei, in the suburbs of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. It is a family-run residency where artists work in close contact with local culture, nature and the everyday rhythms of family life. It is curated by artist Syinat Zholdosheva and Ruslan Ismailov together with the founders of the Bishkek School of Contemporary Art (BiSCA). Residents get a private room, a shared studio that can also host small events, readings and open studios, and optional curatorial support. The programmes include a standard residency, a No Project residency for artists who arrive without a defined plan, and residencies for citizens of Kyrgyzstan, including a women's programme and a zine programme. Applications are accepted year-round, and the residency welcomes companions and children.
