Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia

The Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) shares, interprets, preserves, exhibits, and commemorates the history and culture of African Americans throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. Through partnerships and innovative programming, it aims to restore cultural pride, wellbeing, and unity within the diaspora while fostering a more open and inclusive society. The museum collects, documents, and studies African American history and culture, highlighting stories that are often untold and forgotten. Alongside its permanent exhibitions it presents new exhibitions several times a year, and offers guided tours, events, and educational programs from its home in Richmond.
