Blackfish Gallery has been fully owned and operated by working artists since its founding in 1978. It is the oldest artist-owned and operated gallery in Portland, Oregon, and one of the most enduring cooperative galleries in the United States.
Over 200 Oregon and Washington artists have been represented by the gallery, and its current roster includes emerging, mid- and late-career artists along with four founding artist-owners. It presents rotating exhibitions across its Main Gallery, Gallery 2 and the James Hibbard Gallery, with artist talks, previews and occasional concerts, and also runs a rental program.
Blackfish is a founding member of the Portland Art Dealers' Association and a co-founding member of the Portland Coalition of Art Collectives. In 2024 it received a proclamation from the City of Portland for its contributions to the city's arts ecosystem. The gallery is currently seeking new members.
