The Castle Control Board is a Schedule 3A Public Entity responsible for the overall management, maintenance and promotion of the Castle of Good Hope as a heritage site and tourism attraction. The Castle, a 17th-century bastion fort in Cape Town, is the oldest building in South Africa. On behalf of the Department of Defence and Military Veterans, it provides public services to local community members, tourists, learners, students, exhibitors, performers, cultural organisations and event-organisers. The site houses the Castle Military Museum, a gallery, a gift shop and a restaurant, and is available for venue hire. Its vision is a globally significant, truly accessible centre that showcases South Africa's shared heritage. It aims to build a recognised cultural and heritage brand for Ubuntu, dialogue, nation-building and human rights.
