The Charleston Artist Guild is a nonprofit membership organization of more than 600 artists and photographers in Greater Charleston, South Carolina. It was founded over half a century ago by a small group of artists who wanted to network, display their work and carry out volunteer projects in the community. Its mission is to promote the practice, teaching and appreciation of fine art, and to give members chances to improve their skills, exhibit, compete and market their work. Members join in outreach programs for children, older adults, high school seniors and others, and take part in exhibitions and special art shows throughout the year. The Guild runs the CAG Gallery on East Bay Street in downtown Charleston, a retail space showing the framed work of more than 70 exhibiting members. A portion of each gallery sale supports its community outreach programs. Membership benefits include programs and demonstrations, workshops, classes, free critiques, jurying-in and social events.
