A memoir museum in Philadelphia honoring the stories of the ordinary colored girl of the African Diaspora.
The Colored Girls Museum (TCGM) is a memoir museum founded by Vashti Dubois that honors the stories, experiences, and history of the ordinary colored girl of the African Diaspora. It describes itself as the first of its kind and as the only museum in the United States dedicated to honoring the lives of ordinary colored girls. The museum invites each Colored Girl to submit an object that represents an aspect of her story and personal history she finds meaningful. These objects embody her experience and expression of being a Colored Girl. TCGM is housed in a Germantown house in Philadelphia and presents exhibitions, including work with citizen artist vanessa german. It also offers tours, a podcast and a shop of museum merchandise.
