Community art center in Fairhope offering exhibits, classes and public art programs.
Eastern Shore Art Center grew out of the Eastern Shore Art Association, founded in 1952 by local artists and patrons who believed in the importance of art to community life. The Art Center itself was first dedicated in 1965 on the site of the former Pinewood Pottery Studio in Fairhope, and has since expanded to five exhibit galleries and four teaching studios. Its activities include monthly exhibits, quarterly classes for adults and children, an annual outdoor show, monthly Art Walks, and outreach programs for assisted living residents and people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. The Center also runs extensive public art and arts education programs in local schools, including its Committee on Public Art (COPA), which places works of art throughout Fairhope.
