A grantmaking foundation supporting innovative artists across visual and performing arts.
Foundation for Contemporary Arts encourages, sponsors, and promotes innovative work in the arts. It was established in 1963 by Jasper Johns and John Cage, growing out of a 1962 fundraising effort by visual artists including Robert Rauschenberg to support Merce Cunningham's dance company. Since then, FCA has awarded over $31.5 million to artists and arts organizations through more than 8,000 grants, supporting work across dance, theater, music, and visual art. The foundation also sells donated artworks to help fund its grant programs.
