Youth orchestra foundation using music to promote social inclusion for children and young people in Ecuador.
Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil del Ecuador (FOSJE) has a mission of promoting the social inclusion of children and young people through music. Its regular education program takes students from age 5 through a progression of paper, initiation, children's and youth symphonic orchestras, alongside choirs, ensembles, music theory, lyric singing and orchestral conducting. Since 2014 its special education program has included children, young people and adults with hearing disabilities, Down syndrome, Asperger, autism and learning difficulties, through groups such as the Coro de Manos Blancas, Campanas de Colores and Percusión de Colores. The foundation describes its social and educational program as recognized twice by UNESCO and says it has changed the lives of more than six thousand children and young people through orchestral and vocal music.
