Gallery Espace

Gallery Espace was established in New Delhi in 1989 by Renu Modi with the encouragement of M F Husain, who designed its galloping horse logo. It opened in October 1989 in New Friends Colony and still occupies the same address, now a two-tiered space with modern lighting and display systems. The gallery is known for innovative programming, including large exhibitions devoted to a single medium such as drawing, sculpture, miniprints and bronze. It has worked with several generations of artists, from the Bombay Progressives to contemporary names, and it supports emerging talent and experimental practices, including video art and new media. Gallery Espace has published critical books on its artists and regularly takes part in fairs such as the India Art Fair, Art Basel Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi Art, the Armory Show and Art Dubai.
