The Hernando County Fine Arts Council is the county's designated local arts agency, created in 1987 by the Board of County Commissioners under Florida Statutes. Its mission is to encourage, promote and support all the creative arts in Hernando County and to provide a means to showcase them. The council is run by 15 volunteer members appointed by the commissioners. It works through advocacy, community engagement, arts education and funding support for artists, nonprofits and art-related businesses. Its programs include Art in the Park, a juried fine arts and fine crafts show held annually since 1984, and Community Arts and Arts in Education grants. It also runs the Art Everywhere public art program and maintains an online directory of local artists and art-related businesses.
