Idea Capital is an Atlanta arts funding body that pools small donations from the arts community and redistributes them as direct grants to Atlanta-based artists, performers and cultural producers. It was launched in 2008 by five local art community activists, each of whom put $100 into a common pool, as a way to support artists outside typical institutional funding models. Since then it has awarded grants totaling over $151,000 to more than 135 artists working in diverse disciplines, with multiple competitive grants each year. A steering committee of critics, curators, artists and cultural workers oversees the program. In 2018 ArtsATL honored it with a Luminary Award for Innovative Practice.
