Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency (JTHAR) is an artist-centric nonprofit residency that gives an international community of artists time and space amid the natural beauty of Joshua Tree National Park. Founded in 2007, it offers seven-week residencies that include scholarship funds, living accommodations and studio space suited to a broad range of artistic activity and open studio events. The residency welcomes artists at all stages of their careers working in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, film, video, new media, installation, writing, interdisciplinary and social practice, and architecture. It aims to foster creativity, trust, courage, diversity and acceptance through exploration, experimentation, quiet reflection and cross-cultural exchange with the local community. It also runs Monthly Residences and sells prints to support its work.
