The Knoxville Museum of Art celebrates East Tennessee's rich, diverse visual culture and its connections to the wider currents of world art. It succeeded the Dulin Gallery of Art, which opened in 1961, and has occupied its Edward Larrabee Barnes-designed downtown building since 1990. The museum cares for permanent collections of regional art, modern and contemporary art and glass, and holds the world's largest public collection of work by Beauford Delaney. It presents a schedule of temporary exhibitions alongside its permanent installations, supported by school tours, workshops, outreach programs, lectures, concerts and family activities. Admission is always free, and the museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is supported by individuals, businesses, foundations, memberships, government funding and more than 300 volunteers.
