The Lake Wales Arts Council works to enrich the lives of people in Central Florida through arts education programs and performance and visual arts experiences. It was incorporated in 1972 by local volunteers and arts patrons to sponsor cultural and educational activities in the area. The council runs the Lake Wales Arts Center, a historic converted church that houses a performance hall, galleries and classrooms. Its programs include exhibitions, concerts, classes and workshops, an annual arts festival and an art show with a student division. It operates the most publicly accessible pottery wheels in Polk County and the county's only publicly accessible stained glass program. A staff of arts professionals, a volunteer board of directors and public and private supporters carry out its work.
