Lakkos Artists Residency

Lakkos Artist Residency is an artist-run, multidisciplinary residency space located within the Old Town walls of Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Founded in 2016 in the historic Lakkos neighbourhood, the residency provides a hands-on creative environment for artists across all disciplines to create, research, and explore the city. The project is sustained entirely by artist fees and is run by visual artist Mathew Halpin, who also initiated a mural project in the Lakkos area that continues to this day. In 2019, the residency expanded with a second location in a Cretan village 30 minutes from Heraklion. The residency is LGBTQ+ friendly and fosters a welcoming community atmosphere with no expectation to exhibit or leave work behind.
