Mesa Refuge

Mesa Refuge is a nonprofit residency program based on the California coast that supports writers and activists whose work addresses pressing social and environmental issues. It hosts a diverse community of emerging and established writers working on nature and climate, economic and racial equity, social justice, immigration, health care access, housing, and democracy. The program prioritizes nonfiction books, long-form journalism, documentary film, and podcasts, giving residents dedicated time and space to complete their projects. Mesa Refuge also offers Alum Weeks for returning residents.
