Mudhouse Residency

The Mudhouse Residency is an artist-founded and artist-operated residency program located in the village of Agios Ioannis on the island of Crete, Greece. Founded in 2015, it offers two-week summer sessions for international contemporary artists working across diverse disciplines including visual art, writing, music, and performance. The residency provides accommodations, studio space, and meals, while immersing artists in the stunning natural landscape and rich Minoan historical context of southern Crete. Each session fosters a multicultural, multi-generational artistic community through shared presentations, lectures, and a closing exhibition installed in the village ruins and exhibition space. Fellowship awards—both merit-based and need-based—make the program accessible to an increasingly diverse cohort of artists.
