The Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) builds vibrant communities through Asian and Pacific Islander arts and cultural programs. Its work fosters intergenerational and cross-cultural dialogue and understanding, collaboration, and social justice. Founded in 1984 by a coalition of volunteers, it opened its own facility in the heart of Oakland's Chinatown district in 1996. Since then it has presented performances, workshops, festivals, school tours, classes and exhibitions. The center also offers classes in art, dance and music, and rents out its auditorium, dance studio, kitchen, lobby and conference rooms. It partners with local artists, performing groups and community organizations, and is supported by donations.
