Obras is an international art residency offering artists and researchers time, space, and solitude. It is located on land known as Herdade da Marmeleira, near the village of Évoramonte in the Alentejo region of Portugal. The residency exists to foster the conditions necessary for deep work. Its focus is on giving a person's work the attention it needs to develop, rather than on finishing something or producing a result. In 2026, Obras begins a new chapter under the stewardship of Alex Bonine and Tim Gleason, who continue the work of its founders. It also hosts residents for specialist workshops, such as a three-week marble carving workshop where participants live on site.
