Sweden's national agency commissioning and collecting public art since 1937.
Public Art Agency Sweden works to make art accessible and innovative in the places where people live and work, creating and managing Sweden's public art heritage. It commissions artists to design public spaces throughout the country and acquires works by living Swedish artists for the state's art collection, which now numbers approximately 100,000 pieces. Founded in 1937 with the goal that art would "become everyone's property," the agency also works to improve opportunities and conditions for Swedish artists. It offers program activities, art tours and artist talks nationwide, and welcomes the public to its home on Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm. As of January 1, 2026, Public Art Agency Sweden became part of Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art), operating during a transitional period as a separate department within an interim organisation.
