Tokyo Biennale

Tokyo Biennale is a recurring international art biennale based in Tokyo, Japan, that stages site-specific art projects across designated neighborhoods throughout the city rather than in conventional gallery spaces. It invites artists, curators, and researchers from Japan and abroad to develop projects through on-site research, residency-based production, and direct engagement with local communities, history, and daily life. Its 2027 edition, themed "From 'Me' to 'Us,'" centers on eleven sites spanning temples, business districts, back alleys, historic wooden architecture, a train station, and entertainment and wholesale districts. The biennale is led by a General Producer and coordinated through the Tokyo Biennale Secretariat, supported by an international selection committee of curators, artists, and academics. Through initiatives like the "Social Dive" open call, it works to connect individual artistic practice with the broader social and cultural fabric of the city.
