Toma Unrestored is a project to restore a late Edo-period house in Nara Prefecture, Japan, dating from the latter half of the 18th century. The house stood vacant and close to collapse before 2017, when small exhibitions and events began to be held there. The unrestored house has drawn visitors from many backgrounds, including the local Nara deer. Through artistic and cultural practice, it offers a place where people can interact and break free from conventional frameworks. It works with artists, creators and believers who share its values to build an open system where art is experienced without barriers or prejudice.
