Vermont's oldest art museum, preserving historic collections and championing today's Vermont artists.
T.W. Wood Museum is Vermont's oldest continuous art museum, established in Montpelier in 1895 when painter Thomas Waterman Wood deeded his collection of American art to the citizens of the city. Its mission is to preserve and exhibit exceptional historic and contemporary art, offer arts education to all ages, and collaborate with the community so that art is available to everyone. The permanent collection includes over 1,000 works by Wood and more than 150 WPA-era works. Its galleries also show changing exhibitions of contemporary Vermont and New England artists, and its youth and adult art classes serve students across the region.
