State agency funding and supporting the arts across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) is the state agency dedicated to investing in the arts for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in 1968, it has spent more than 55 years elevating Virginia's arts organizations, inspiring communities, and supporting artists of all disciplines through funding and additional resources. The VCA administers grant programs, including the Small and Rural Arts Network (SARA), and initiatives such as the Passport Program, which broadens public access to the arts for Virginians. It also oversees Virginia's arts specialty license plate program, directing the majority of plate fees to grants supporting visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, and more across the state.
