A nonprofit enhancing quality of life through the fine arts in Des Moines's western suburbs.
The Waukee Area Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life through the fine arts in the western suburbs of Des Moines and the surrounding area. It works to foster creativity and self-expression, serve all age groups, and encourage diversity in programming and participation. The council was created in 2004 by a group of individuals with a passion for the fine arts in Waukee, Iowa. It originally offered performance and music-based programming for youth and adults, and later added "Area" to its name to include all communities in the metro area and around Waukee. A volunteer Board of Directors of seven people, some of them artists and some connoisseurs of art, guides the council and takes input from artists, vendors and attendees. The council also organizes the Waukee Arts Festival.
