The Litchfield Park Gathering is a free, public celebration of indigenous arts and cultures held January 9-10, 2027, in Litchfield Park, Arizona, 30 minutes west of Phoenix. The festival runs daily from 10am to 5pm and attracts thousands of visitors. This is an opportunity for artists to sell their work to collectors and consumers. The festival is supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Arizona Office of Tourism.
Accepted artists may enter a juried art competition with onsite review by an expert panel on Friday, January 8, at the Wigwam Resort. Winners are notified when retrieving their pieces that evening and are announced and showcased during the festival.
Artists participating must be in compliance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Acts of 1990 and 2000. Artists must have proof of tribal affiliation and all artists applying will be required to submit verification. All art must be original, handcrafted creations exhibited by the artist and properly identified with the artist's trademark or signature. No co-ops, dealers or traders allowed. No imported, manufactured or mass-produced items allowed. No works produced with commercial kits, molds, patterns or prefabricated forms allowed. Absolutely no sale or display of prehistoric or culturally sensitive artifacts or ceremonial objects. Specific regulations apply to basketry, beadwork/quillwork/leather, dolls, jewelry, paintings, prints, pottery, sculpture, textiles and weaving.
About 150 applications are submitted each year, with roughly 100 artists selected through jury and 5 invited exempt from jury. Five jurors score each application as Yes, No, or Maybe, viewing images on a computer monitor, organized into multiple panels by medium category. The jury process is closed to observers. Commercial and "buy-sell" items are prohibited at artist booths; all products must be handmade.
